Cycling Routes

Longer Routes

The longer routes aim (at least in part) to replicate
the journey travelled by Lucy and Thomas Sotheron Estcourt
between their two homes in Gloucestershire and Hook

The Main Ride:

is to start in Shipton Moyne – where Thomas’ family home was
and more specifically at St John’s, Shipton Moyne where the family chapel is.
We believe St John’s like St Mary’s was restored in the Victorian period with monies extensively supplied by Thomas and Lucy.

This ride is approximately 200 miles (slightly more)
Some Cyclists are planning to ride the whole route in one day – the Saturday, but others will do it over three days – Thurs30th Sept, Fri 1st Oct and Sat 2nd Oct (approximately 70 miles a day) with some doing a ‘ride in’ of an additional 27 miles on Wed 29th afternoon from Devizes, where Thomas was MP and where there is a statue of him in the town square.

Accommodation for the three nights will be ‘bunking down’ in church halls – or if you prefer to pay for a comfy bed staying in a local B&B

Exact details of the routes will be made available to those who register.

Saturday Routes – The Last Part

Their is to be a ‘leisure’ ride from Hook out to Eastoft by the back roads (very pleasant) which will meet up with the Main Ride at 2.30pm on Saturday at St Bartholomew’s Church, Eastoft. And then ride with them back to Aire St (outside the Lowther in Goole) where the group will meet up with the Short Route riders (Children and Families) to ride the final 2 miles together to Hook Church of England School. (The first school was started by Lucy and Thomas hence the stone by the gate with THSS and LSES inscribed on it (Thomas Henry Sutton Sotheron and Lucy Sarah Estcourt Sotheron). This leisure route by the time you get back to Hook is 27 miles.

Di Gollop has created the ride from Hook to Eastoft and return. It is to be done as a British Cycling Guided ride. Starting at 11am, lunch at Blacktoft, meet the incoming riders at Eastoft 2.30 and back to Hook for the ride in.
Here is the link to register for the ride and or find out more
Please be aware that by signing up for the ride youwill have the support of First aiders, mechanical support and a pre reccied route with guidance. There will be a register of their emergency contacts and the leaders need to be aware of any medical conditions a rider might have.
If anyone should arrive without registering on line (link above)they can be manually added.

For those who only want to ride 11 miles from Eastoft to Hook they should arrange for someone to take them to St Bartholomew’s Church Eastoft for 2.30pm ready to ride in with everyone else.

Short Route – from Aire St to Hook School

This will leave from outside the Lowther at 4pm on Saturday 2nd arriving at Hook School around 4.15-4.30pm

Registering for this route will be done via school – further information here soon.
